The average professional athlete's career is 48 months (4 years). During that time they are either participating in their sport, eating, drinking, sleeping, traveling, involved in family activities or watching their ESPN /Sports Center highlights (which averages out to nearly 22 of the 24 hours in a day.) That leaves very few hours during a career for even thinking about marketing, promotion and life after sport.
